Additional Training/
Internship/Work History:

I received training in varied approaches (client-centered, cognitive-behavioral, brief solution-focused, process-oriented, among others) while completing my internship at the Transpersonal Counseling Center, Palo Alto, CA. Then I was invited to continue on afterwards and altogether, worked there for 5 years (1994-1999). Prior to attending ITP, I worked as a designer and preparator of museum exhibitions for 10 years (1981-1991). Since 1994 (to the present), I have worked as a freelance editor. Following my arrival in Japan (1999), I have been engaged in educational and editorial counseling, gaining rich experience in cross-cultural communication as I have been helping Japanese clients / students prepare for Western psychological and academic orientations. I have also continued to deepen my practice of Aikido (begun in 1992).

Areas of Special Expertise:

My approach to psychotherapy is an integral, integrative one, wherein needs of the client and her/his/their environment primarily determine and shape therapy's specifics. Adjustment disorders; stress; relationship issues; identity questions; life transitions; career change; life threatening illness, grief, and bereavement; sports psychology; working with the creative arts and performance enhancement are within my experience and expertise. Engagement in the arts (creative and martial) and the psychology of spiritual growth are special interests. My deep respect for the constancy of change underlies all of the work I do in support of the growth and development of one's fullness of being.
