IMHPJ’s Annual Conference scheduled March 6th – 8th has been cancelled
The Board regrets to announce that IMHPJ’s Annual Conference scheduled March 6th – 8th has been cancelled.
This difficult decision was made due to the evolving public health risks related to the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. Factors contributing to our decision were Dr. David Cohen cancelling his attendance, the Japanese government encouraging people to cancel or postpone events involving large numbers of people over the next two weeks, the number of attendees who would be travelling from around Japan to attend the conference, and our members’ well being given the increased anxiety relating to the decision whether to attend or not.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause you. We are issuing full refunds to members who have submitted payment. You will receive an email within the next few days from Chie Sawa, Treasurer, regarding your refund.
The Board will be meeting later this week to discuss the possibility of hosting a smaller version of the conference later in the year. The irony of cancelling a conference that views trauma in context and provides Psychological First Aid training as a response to natural disasters, is not lost upon us. If anything, it highlights the need to make our best effort to provide support our community. We will be contacting you again when we are in a better position to determine if and when a mini-conference is possible.
