NAKANO, Wakako
I am a clinical psychologist who graduated from the Graduate School of Humanities at Gakushuin University. I began my career as a sales representative for a Japanese trading company and then a foreign airline for about 10 years. After my graduate school training, I worked at the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and the Health Management Office of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. I currently work at the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry, where I am engaged in clinical research on stress-related disorders, mainly PTSD, as well as eating disorders.
As a Christian, which is rare in Japan, I have found myself navigating cross-cultural issues here in Japan even though I am Japanese. The experience of being an outsider at home has informed my clinical practice. I am happy to help people live more comfortably regardless of religion, nationality, gender, or sexual orientation.
