MALOYAN-KISHIDA, Ana
Ana holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology and is a California-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 25 years of post-license experience. U.S.-trained and based in Tokyo since 1992, she offers psychotherapy sessions in English and French to individuals and couples facing cross-cultural challenges, complex life transitions, and emotional struggles.
Her international background and longstanding practice in Japan have shaped a deeply inclusive perspective. Ana brings extensive experience working with globally diverse clients—including expatriates, bicultural couples, and third-culture individuals—navigating the intersections of identity, culture, and emotional wellbeing.
Her areas of expertise include couples and intercultural counseling; mood and anxiety disorders such as depression, panic disorder, and OCD; trauma-related concerns including adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and attachment injury; professional development and workplace issues; stress and anger management; and women’s mental health, including infertility and postpartum depression.
Ana’s integrative therapeutic approach is grounded in Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral, Mindfulness-based, and Neuroscience-informed practices. It is enriched by additional training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Polyvagal Theory, Grief Counseling, Executive Coaching, and targeted treatments for OCD, anxiety, and infidelity. She tailors interventions to the unique needs of each client, combining clinical insight with empathy to help foster emotional resilience, disrupt entrenched patterns, and build sustainable pathways toward growth and healing.
Committed to lifelong learning, Ana continuously updates her methods to reflect emerging therapeutic research. Her earlier clinical training includes work at UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute–Autism Center, USC Psychiatric Hospital–Inpatient Unit, Verdugo Mental Health Center, and Glen Roberts Child Study Center.
