Bio

Dr. Hitomi Nakamura is a chartered counseling psychologist with a wealth of experience spanning over 17 years in mental health services. Fluent in both English and Japanese, she brings a culturally sensitive perspective to her practice. Having trained in New York and London, she has worked with clients from diverse backgrounds worldwide.

Dr. Hitomi leveraged her expertise through roles held within the National Health Service (NHS) and a private sector in the U.K. As the lead school counselor at the British School in Tokyo, she played a pivotal role in supporting young people, their families, and educators. Currently, she collaborates with international schools in Japan and offers a range of services including therapy, consultations, workshops, and clinical supervision.

Dr. Hitomi extensively offers online therapy to teens (age 13+), families, and adults within the international community in Japan and globally. Services are delivered in English, Japanese, or a combination of both languages, ensuring accessibility and cultural sensitivity. Her areas of expertise encompass stress, anxiety, panic, depression, sleep problems, perfectionism, low self-esteem, relationship issues, school refusal, identity issues, and transition/adjustment issues.

Dr. Hitomi tailors counseling sessions to meet individual needs and provides evidence-based treatment drawing from cognitive-behavioral therapy, compassion focused therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. Within a safe and non-judgmental space, clients have the opportunity to explore challenges and develop practical strategies for gaining new perspectives, a sense of control, and inner calmness.
