Bio

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHCA), licensed in the state of Washington.

Looking for support that meets you where you are? I help adults in Tokyo and online move through life’s hardest moments—stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, addiction, OCD, and perfectionism—and rebuild the clarity, self-compassion, and sense of purpose needed to step forward.

Whether you’re feeling stuck in your career, struggling in your relationships, adjusting to life across cultures, or quietly carrying weight that no one else seems to see, you don’t have to figure it out alone. As both a licensed therapist and a coach, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore what’s troubling you, reconnect with what matters most, and take meaningful action toward the life you actually want.

For organizations, my Full Engagement Corporate Training brings the same evidence-based, ACT-informed tools to teams—helping employees manage stress-related conditions, build resilience, and discover purpose-driven meaning at work. Because thriving people build thriving companies.

My Approach

My philosophy is simple: I meet you where you are. We build a committed working relationship—one where we explore your challenges, identify your strengths, and create meaningful steps toward the life you want. I’m here to support and gently guide, but you are always the one steering the ship.

The foundation of my work is Person Centered Therapy (PCT), which provides a supportive, non-judgmental environment where you feel safe to explore your thoughts and emotions and discover your own solutions. I also draw heavily on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which blends mindfulness with values-based action—helping you work skillfully with difficult thoughts while moving toward what truly matters. ACT principles also shape much of my individual coaching and corporate training work.

Personal Background and Motivation

I grew up between Texas and Minnesota, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and have called Japan home since 1995. Across 27 years in the Tokyo business market—working in both Japanese and multinational firms, and managing teams, divisions, and companies—I saw firsthand the acute shortage of mental wellness support available to individuals and organizations alike. Watching colleagues, clients, and contacts navigate work stress, life transitions, and personal struggle without adequate support is what drew me into this work.

I bring two decades of experience mentoring people facing substance abuse and workplace challenges, plus 3.5 years as a crisis center counselor. Beyond PCT and ACT, I’m certified in Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), QPR Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention Training, and Psychological First Aid (PFA).

I live in Tokyo with my wife (married since 1998) and our daughter, of whom we are very proud. Outside of my practice you’ll find me walking, cycling, listening to music, taking long walks, practicing the mindful activities I recommend to clients, or at mindfulness-based exercises and gatherings.
