SHAW, Jack
Welcome! My name is Jack, I provide mental health counseling services in Japan. Finding a therapist who is right for you can be daunting, please let me share an overview of my approach to help you in your search. I work with individuals and couples navigating a variety of life situations. Many of my clients seek support for anxiety, depression, trauma, cultural adjustment, and LGBTQIA+ or gender-diversity matters.
My goal as a therapist is to create a welcoming space where you can be yourself. I embrace your strengths, insights, emotions, sense of humor, and creativity. I believe in your ability to heal and grow. Together, we’ll work collaboratively to ensure that therapy is meaningful and aligned with your goals. My approach is trauma-informed and integrates person-centered, narrative, and emotionally focused theories, along with mind-body (somatic) and mindfulness-based interventions.
I aim to listen attentively, understand your needs, and respect your unique perspective. I would begin by exploring what matters most to you, prioritizing your stability and safety. When you feel ready, we will work together to make the changes you desire, helping you live the life you deserve.
A bit about me: I’ve been living in Japan for over 20 years and have five years of experience in mental health support and outreach within Japan’s international community. I am dedicated to raising awareness and reducing mental health stigma. I have a passion for watching films, taking improv classes, and, more recently, gardening.
