YOKOKAWA, Kiki N.
Hello, my name is Kiki (she/her). I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Board-Certified Dance/Movement Therapist. My training in Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) allows me to integrate the wisdom of the body with the mind, supporting therapeutic work through both verbal and non-verbal processes. I am also a Certified Laban Movement Analyst, which provides me with a detailed framework for observing and working with movement and embodiment in my clinical practice.
I work with children, adolescents, and adults, tailoring essential clinical interventions to clients’ developmental stages and needs. I have extensive experience supporting children (ages 5 and up) and teens in a variety of settings, including inpatient acute care, outpatient clinics, and academic environments. I offer individual, group, and family sessions, always shaping the work to meet the developmental and relational needs of each client. Non-verbal modalities are often especially effective for children processing trauma, anxiety, and grief—experiences they may not yet be able to put into words.
With adults, I find that a somatic and movement-based approach can be profoundly transformative, especially in healing developmental and relational trauma. Reconnecting with the body often brings new levels of self-understanding, compassion, and integration.
My work is grounded in a person-centered, humanistic framework, which guides me to bring authenticity and unconditional positive regard into each session. This foundation often encourages clients to feel safe and open in the therapeutic relationship.
As a bicultural individual, I am deeply interested in how culture and acculturation shape our identities and relationships. I have had the privilege of working with international students, IB program students, returnees, and biracial individuals. As a returnee and former international student myself, I understand the complexity of navigating polarized worldviews and identities. My goal is to help clients bridge these differences and support them in integrating their full experiences with compassion.
